Creating a Senior Ministry

Summary: The older adult population is growing 3 times the rate of the American population at large. Yet the senior adult groups and programs in most churches are irrelevant to most older adults in and outside the church. This 4-visit (18-month) consultation will bring new life and new growth to your Senior Adult ministry as church leaders are guided through a re-definition of the purpose and activities of this potentially significant ministry area. Proven church growth principles are applied to the senior adult ministry in order to see more people reached and assimilated into the church. new groups are established to reach new kinds of older adults, and new outreach is experienced as existing members are equipped to reach out to non-Christian friends and relatives.

Goals: The objective of this Special Topic Consultation is to see the senior adult ministry become a vital and contributing part of the overall growth and ministry of the sponsoring local church. New people will be added to the church membership from the unchurched older adult population and more older adults within the church will utilize their spiritual gifts and God-given talents in ministry and service.

Process: This Special Topic Consultation consists of four on-site visits by the consultant. Prior to the consultant’s first visit, the church is asked to complete a 6-page "Older Adult Ministry Analysis Inventory" and return it to the Church Growth offices. The following topics are the focus of the four on-site consulting visits
