Developing an Evangelism Lifestyle

Summary: Church growth research clearly indicates that 75% - 90% of all new believers and new church members come from the "networks" of exiting members’ unchurched friends and relatives. This Special Topic Consultation helps your church tap into this powerful New Testament principle of evangelism by 1) equipping members to effectively reach out to their "Extended Family" and 2) creating a disciple-making "greenhouse" environment where your church’s programming supports and supplements the outreach activities of each member.

Goal: The objective of this 3-visit consultation is to 1) train at least 60% of all active church members in lifestyle evangelism in the future, 2) equip teachers to continue training additional members (including new members) in the future, 3) establish a "support system" wherein members continue practicing the principles of lifestyle evangelism, 4) establish a church organizational structure that supports the disciple making activities of members by identifying and programming for their pre-churched friends and relatives.

Process: Prior to the first on-site visit, the pastor is responsible for recruiting a team of 5 - 7 people who are willing to serve on a task force that will be responsible for overseeing the planning and implementing lifestyle evangelism strategy in the church.

This Special Topic Consultation consists of three on-site visits by the consultant. Each visit focuses on a key step in the process of moving from a few in the church sporadically sharing their faith, to a large number of members intentionally sharing their faith with those who are most receptive — friends and family members. The following topics are the focus of the three on-site consulting visits

Visit #1 (one day)

  • Building a Theology and Philosophy of Outreach to Friends and Family
  • Evaluating Conversion Growth in the Church
  • Examining Existing Attitudes Toward Evangelism
  • Developing a "Great Commission Conscience" in the Church

Visit #2 (one day; 4 - 5 months following the first visit)

  • Training Laity in Evangelism
  • Evaluating Present Church Activities from a Disciple-Making Perspective

Visit #3 (one day; 4 - 5 months following the second visit)

  • Developing a "Support System" to Nurture a Disciple-Making Lifestyle
  • Defining and Profiling Our Potential Congregation
  • Programming for Our Potential Congregation

The curriculum used in raining church members in Lifestyle Evangelism is The Master’s Plan for Making Disciples. Developed by Dr. Charles Arn, the book (The Master’s Plan) has sold over 150,000 copies and a second edition has recently been released by Baker Books (Grand Rapids, MI). A second edition of The Master’s Plan training course has also been recently released. The sponsoring church receives The Master’s Plan training kit ($59.95 value), as well as a life-time 20% discount on participant training materials.

The normal length of time between the first and second consultant visit is 3 - 4 months. The time between the second and third consultant visit is normally 6 - 8 months.

Each consultant visit includes presentation of research and proven guidelines for developing a lifestyle of evangelism throughout the church, as well as individual assessment of the sponsoring church’s particular situation.

A component of all "Special Topic Consultations" is free telephone consultation for one year surrounding the visit/s.

Cost: This Special Topic Consultation for Creating a Lifestyle Evangelism Process in the local church is available only as a package of three (3) on-site consultations. Total cost is $1800, plus travel & accommodations for one person from Los Angeles, California.
