Start a New Worship Service

Summary: Church growth research clearly indicates that new style worship services reach new people who would otherwise not attend the church. If you are considering a new style worship service, you will find the experience and knowledge of a CGI consultant to be exceptionally worthwhile One, two, three, or four on-site visits are optional, depending on where the church is in the planning and implementation process. The critical steps to successfully launching a new service comprise the outline and direction of the consultant’s visit.

Goal: The objective of the consulting relationship is the successful launching of a new style worship service — specifically designed to reach a new target audience in the church’s community. Success is defined as a service design and communication strategy that provides for the critical mass necessary to see the new service become an effective new outreach strategy in the church’s ministry area.

Process: The focus of each consultant visit is determined on the basis of where the sponsoring church is in the process of beginning a new style service. If the idea of a new service is in its embryonic form, the four consultant visits typically focus on the following steps:

Visit #1 (one day)

• Clarifying the Vision for a New Service
• Getting the Church on Board
• Identifying the Target Audience

Visit #2 (one day; 2 - 4 months following first visit)

• Researching and Defining the Target Audience
• When and Where to Meet
• Designing the Service

Visit #3 (one day; 3 - 4 months following second visit)

• Designing the Service
• Promoting the Service
• Visitor Welcome and Follow Up

Visit #4 (one day; 4 - 5 months following fourth visit)

• Evaluating the Service
• Visitor Follow Up

Any combination of the topics can be addressed if fewer than four consultant visits are scheduled. Much of the guidance in these visits is base don the research for the book How to Start a New Service by Charles Arn. This 5-year research project is the most comprehensive study ever conducted on the dynamics of successfully beginning a new service.

Each consultant visit includes presentation of research and proven guidelines for beginning a new service, as well as individual assessment of the sponsoring church’s particular situation. Assignments are given to those involved in planning/researching the new service, and reports are made at the succeeding visit.

A component of all "Special Topic Consultations" is free telephone consultation for one year surround the visit/s.

Even if you already have two or more services (and especially if you currently have only one), the time and effort you put into successfully launching a new service will pay for itself many times over in enthusiasm, influence, and long-term growth of your new service.

Cost: One-time, one-day consultant visit is $985. Two-time consultant visit is a total of $1485 ($718/visit). Three-time consultant visit is a total of $1885 ($629/visit). A four-time consultant visit is a total of $2370 ($593/visit). Travel and accommodations for one person from Los Angeles, California is in addition.
